My memories with costumes
Since my childhood, I had various questions that used to buzz my mind. These questions were mostly regarding the costumes that I saw people wearing on different occasions. Now what buzzed me the most was that why do these people actually buy costumes. Then a time came when I started to understand these things. I remember that was my 5th Halloween and I was along with different people wearing Halloween costumes wandering all around the neighborhood for trick or treating. What I got out of this that time was that people were wearing Halloween costumes to look spooky. Then another question came to buzz my mind and that question was that why do people wear costumes even when it is not Halloween. However, it did not take me long to get the answer for that as soon I was selected to perform a role in the drama of my school so I solved a bit of this riddle myself as me and my friends were wearing those costumes to actually look like the characters we are in that drama. However, I needed to know more so I thought that nobody would answer to me at that moment except for my dearest teacher. So I went to her and asked her very innocently that why are we wearing these costumes? Her answer matched my own self-generated answer up to some extent but she added further to my knowledge that we are wearing these costumes to fit into the characters properly while we act and to make the drama look more understandable to the audience as appearance matters a lot and gives a little detail about the character itself.
After the drama was over I went to the teacher again and this time I asked about the reason for which mascots wear the costumes. I was very surprised to know that mascots wear the costumes to raise the moral of the team and mascots don’t buy costumes by themselves but their teams give that to them. My little mind and I thought that mascot costumes must have some extra pockets and give strength to the mascot lift something that players carry, as I did not know exactly of what moral is. I even used to wonder that whether people could fly wearing costumes as I was into watching cartoons a lot and cartoons like superman and batman were my favorites. I used to prefer the costumes of my favorite cartoon heroes as my Halloween costumes. However, my mom always used to tell me that I should look spooky and these are not the right choices for Halloween costumes.
As the time passed on, I grew up. In fact, I grew so much that I have kids of my own now. I see them wondering the same things about costumes and that reminds me of my own childhood. However, these children are fortunate enough because they get to wear the costumes of their favorite cartoons as their Halloween costumes now. This is because of the reason that most cartoons today feature ghosts and weird looking creatures in them. We go buy costumes for our children every Halloween and we make sure that the costumes we have bought fulfill the requirements of our children.
